Failing Every Day
with Meg Solomon
Behavior Bites Podcast - Episode 01
Nov 13, 2022
In today’s show— Meg and I talk about failure and owning up to mistakes.
When something doesn’t work, you have to adapt instead of being too proud and trying to push through. To be a better BCBA is to realize that when you make a mistake—learn from it, grow, and do better.
Excerpts from the Episode
-
…I then moved to Los Angeles in hopes that a change of environment would help me find my purpose in life. I worked in some of the most incredible restaurants and with some of the most talented chefs and winemakers in the world. I served celebrity guests regularly, had the most flexible high-paying job imaginable…
It wasn’t until I had confessed to a good friend of mine that I missed working with children that she suggested that I begin volunteering at a school for students with autism and other special needs that I felt something click.
I began volunteering full-time, and I quit my job on the Sunset Strip. My then fiance supported me as I went from making money to making literally nothing because he saw how much joy it brought to me…
-
I have failed so often that I don’t remember most of my failures… I learned that failure wasn’t a detriment to growth or to my “permanent record” (Most teachers actually want you to succeed, and many tutored me or let me retake tests).
…I definitely had a hard lesson learned in college when I was late into my Junior year and diagnosed with Vocal Nodules…
-
No one, literally no one, has all of the answers, so keep learning and stepping out of your comfort zone.
-
To this day, one of my first and former clients shares what they are doing. Seeing her continue to grow and become more of an inspiring and gorgeous grown woman every day is all that I need. I see the long term impact of what we do, and it continues to help me want to help others.
