Excerpts from the Episode

(*Paraphrased highlights)
  • I'm absolutely obsessed. They wake me up very early in the morning. They're very demanding, as I'm sure you know. One is on the counter and playing in the sink right now, when they're not supposed to be. I'm a pushover parent. I've learned that, but yeah, they're great!

  • Besides being a professional karaoke person…

I’d love to work in a collective with people I admire in the field and other disciplines, where we could share clients and work alongside each other.

Also, doing “Becoming Unf*ckwithable” full time. Helping people to feel better about themselves and knowing that the science can be used for that, brings me so much joy.

  • It’s about this radical and defiant, revolutionary push back towards the system. It involves looking in the mirror and being able to reframe all of the negatives that you could think of—that you've been socialized to think of, and reframing those into being these really beautiful parts of yourself.

So for me, it really is a matter of utilizing our science to systematically have people fall in love with themselves in a way that is so defiant. I think for anybody, especially any of us who are living within a marginalized community or identity, it's so needed.

  • I think people think I don't like white people, and they're surprised how nice I am. The thing that makes me really sad about that is, my passion for human rights is what it is because I have this deep love for people. I just want people to be able to be themselves—without harm and without threat.

  • I have a commitment to myself that before I do anything for anyone else, I do something for myself.

Usually, it's going to the gym because I really love going to the gym. If it's not the gym, then literally, I'm romanticizing making myself a cup of coffee or getting a treat.

I used to put so much pressure on my spouse to do these things for me. After her calling me out about that, and me getting over myself and being open to her feedback, and how that impacted her, it dawned on me—I'm saying I love myself, well, what does that look like?

How I show up for myself is really big, as well as inner-child work.
