Why should we work from a trauma-assumed lens?
In today’s show— dr. danyelle and I talk about compassionate care, self-reflection, and being an SD for crying.
If you don’t know danyelle, she is simultaneously the most gentle human and absolute powerhouse I know—a continuous inspiration, as well as a doctor, a successful business owner, best-selling author, conference speaker, podcast host, loving wife, and mother.
Excerpts from the Episode
(*Paraphrased highlights)
-
I had never heard of behavior analysis, but I replied to a job listing working with children. On my first day, I had to chase the kid down a busy street. I was also very pregnant. At the end of the session, they said I had what it takes and was hired. In a couple weeks I fell in love with the work, the families, and the impact I was making.
-
I failed the BCBA exam over and over and over. It was beyond frustrating and demoralizing. There is so much more to behavior analysis, and failing made me realize a test does not define me as a clinician.
-
My version of self-care is getting quiet, reflecting, and being intentional of how I split up my time. I make sure there’s time to work, time for my family and friends, and time to watch an episode of Charmed.
